In the neighborhoods of Mejiro and Shimo-Ochiai, small yet high-quality shops line the streets. As a new gelato shop opening in this area, we envisioned creating a space that feels like a bridge between the town and the interior—an open environment that embodies the essence of the special, nature-inspired gelato we offer.
The shop’s interior and exterior fixtures are designed using a silica-based plaster that evokes the texture of gelato. This material is shaped through operations inspired by geometric forms such as spheres and cylinders. For surfaces touched by people, teakwood is employed, allowing the materials to develop character and depth over time with age. By scattering small seating areas both inside and outside the shop, we’ve created a sense of continuity between the two spaces, aiming to establish an open environment where the community can gather and connect.
