渋谷のMIYASHITA PARKの2階に位置するベーカリーカフェの計画である。多店舗展開するベーカリーの「パンとエスプレッソと」の卵料理を出す新店舗であり、そのコンテンツ自体がこの店のアイコンとなることが求められた。そこで、卵の形がもつ自然の美しさと、アイコンとなり得るキャラクターに着目し、その原理を設計に取り入れようと考えた。卵を横から見た形状の多くは、片方のみ窄まっている。プロポーションや大きさは生物によって異なるが、この非対称の形状を関数を用いて数学的に定義し、空間を構成するエレメントとして採用した。
This is a project of a bakery café located on the 2nd floor of MIYASHITA PARK in Shibuya, Tokyo. This café specializing in egg dishes is a new branch of the bakery chain “BREAD, ESPRESSO &” and required content to become its icon. Therefore, we focused on the natural beauty of the shape of an egg and the potential of its character to become an icon, then decided to incorporate those principles into the design. Eggs, as seen from the side, are generally narrower on one side. Although proportion and size differ depending on the species, we defined the asymmetrical shape using mathematical functions and adopted it as an element that constitutes the space.

空間に奥行きを与える仕切りとして、卵を半分にした形のファブリックを大小6枚吊るした。身体の移動を拘束するようなものでもなく、視線を遮るものでもないこのファブリックは、この場に心理的な領域を形づくる。また、パンの棚やテーブルの脚、壁に浮かぶタペストリーなどのエレメントに卵形がリフレインするように現れ、点在することによって生まれる緩やかな一体感をつくろうとした。
正円でもなく、楕円でもなく、やや対称形が崩れながらも数学的に決定された、力の均衡を表象する卵形の群れが、この場に生き生きとした力を与えることをめざした。
Six fabrics, large and small, in the shape of half an egg, are hung as partitions to give depth to the space. The fabric, which neither restrains the movement nor blocks the view, psychologically creates a sense of territory. The egg shapes are repeated, like a refrain, on the bread shelves, table legs, and the tapestries floating on the wall, creating a loose sense of unity through the scattered elements.
Neither a perfect circle nor an ellipse, the egg shape that is mathematically defined yet slightly asymmetrical, represents the balance of forces. Such shapes together impart vitality and energy to this space.
