町田市のショッピングモールに入る犬用品の物販店舗の計画である。施設は屋外のオープンモール型のため、街のように通りがあり、広場や公園と一体となっていることが特徴である。その通りに面する店舗内にも屋外環境との連続を感じられるような自然を、人工物で再現できないかと試みた。
This is a project for a dog supply store in a shopping mall in Machida, Tokyo. This open-air retail complex is designed like a town with pedestrian streets and incorporates plazas and parks. We aimed to artificially reproduce nature inside the shop facing the street, creating harmony with the outdoor environment.

そこで、石膏ボードのビス頭を埋めるパテを縦のストライプ状に職人が塗り、手前にカーブした仮設用のメッシュを張り、その間にライン状の照明を入れることで、滝のようなゆらぎのある複雑な表れをつくった。ローコストな素材を用いながらもそこに自然現象のようなラグジュアリーを感じられる空間をめざした。平面計画は待合のベンチや奥への動線が人も犬もスムーズに移動できるように、ベンチのカーブやカウンターの形状に曲面形状を用いている。
The interior wall is comprised of plasterboard, a putty layer applied in a vertical stripe pattern to cover screw tops of the plasterboard, and an undulating mesh curtain that is usually used for temporary construction. By inserting linear lighting between the plasterboard and mesh curtain, the wall shows a complex appearance that shimmers like a flowing waterfall. The aim was to fill the space with the luxury of natural phenomena using low-cost materials. The curved shapes of the bench and the counter allow people and dogs to effortlessly walk through the shop towards the lobby bench and the back of the shop.
犬は色の見え方が人間と異なると言われている。赤系はグレーに見え、緑や黄色はややくすんだ黄色に見え、紫や青は青系の色として見えるとされている。この店舗に入った犬には下半分がグレーとして見え、上半分は黄色のツートンカラーの空間として認識されているだろう。それはもしかするとグレーの大地と黄色い光の空間に見えているかもしれない。人が座ったり物を置いたりする天板のみピンクの色が用いられることで、人が見える世界と犬が見える世界は異なっているが、それでも共存して生きることの意志をこの空間に埋め込んだ。
Dogs’ vision is said to be different from that of people. Red shades appear grayish, whereas green and yellow turn slightly dull, and purple and blue are viewed as blueish. Dogs that enter the store would perceive the space as bi-color, with the lower half of the room in a grayish tone and the upper half in yellow. They might even see the space as gray ground with a yellow light-filled area above. The pink color applied only to the surface where people sit or place things expresses our will to live together with dogs despite differences in how we see the world.
